Special Education
Special education is defined as specially-designed instruction that meets the unique needs of a child with a disability. It encompasses a system of supports and services designed to ensure that students with disabilities have meaningful access to the general education curriculum and can make progress in school. In our district, we believe that general education is the starting point for all students. We are committed to providing support within the general education setting whenever possible, so students learn alongside their peers and remain active members of their school community.
Through the Individualized Education Program (IEP) process, each student’s unique strengths and needs are identified, and appropriate goals, services, and supports are developed. These may include specialized academic instruction, related services, accommodations, and other supports tailored to help the student succeed academically, socially, and emotionally.
Special education is guided by the principle of the least restrictive environment (LRE), meaning students are educated in general education settings to the maximum extent appropriate, with more specialized settings considered only when necessary to meet their individual needs.
We value strong partnerships with families and work collaboratively to ensure that every student is supported, included, and empowered to succeed inside and outside the classroom.
