Technology Vision Statement

We envision every student as a capable, creative, and ethical user of technology in a rapidly changing world. Our technology-rich learning environments, grounded in the Workshop model, empower students to collaborate, think critically, and communicate across local and global contexts. With equitable access to digital tools, safe and responsible technology use, and a commitment to exploring emerging innovations like AI, we prepare students to thrive in school and in life.

Our Core Commitments

We are dedicated to:

  • Equity: Ensuring every student has access to the digital tools and support they need.

  • Learning: Supporting high-quality instruction through meaningful technology integration.

  • Safety & Privacy: Protecting student data and ensuring platforms meet legal requirements.

  • Innovation: Exploring emerging tools, including Artificial Intelligence (AI), to prepare students for their future.

Technology in Action

Across LAFSD classrooms, technology plays a vital role in teaching and learning:

  • 1:1 Devices: Students in designated grade levels receive district-managed Chromebooks or iPads to support learning at school and home.

  • Blended Learning: Teachers integrate apps, platforms, and digital tools to enrich instruction and engage students in creative problem-solving.

  • Ongoing Support: Educators receive professional development and coaching to ensure effective and purposeful technology use.

  • Digital Citizenship: Students learn to use technology safely, responsibly, and ethically through lessons embedded into the curriculum.

Student Privacy & Approved Tools

We take student data privacy seriously. All digital platforms used in LAFSD are reviewed for compliance with FERPA, COPPA, SOPIPA, and other applicable laws and guidelines.

Visit our Digital Learning Directory to explore the approved educational apps and platforms in use across the district. This public resource promotes transparency and reflects our ongoing commitment to digital safety and meaningful learning.

In addition to core instructional platforms, students may also have access to certain Google services (such as Google Translate or Google Earth) through their district accounts, which are managed under our Google Workspace for Education privacy settings.

Online Safety and Access Controls

While using LAFSD accounts and devices, students are protected by Securly web filtering, which limits access to inappropriate content and non-educational websites. Access to online services is managed by the district and may be restricted based on grade level and instructional need.
