Superintendent's Message

Dear Families, Staff and Community Members,

In the wake of yet another senseless and tragic incident that occurred yesterday in Florida, I want to make available to you some resources that can be used with your child to help provide appropriate information and comfort during this difficult time.

Please know that the well-being and safety of our students and staff is our highest priority. Events such as these cause us to continue to be ever more vigilant about performing comprehensive school safety drills and putting viable plans into place at each of our schools. In addition, we work very closely with Lafayette Police Chief Eric Christensen and the Lafayette Police Department to ensure safe campuses at all of our schools. These efforts include prevention and response strategies, and most recently active shooter training for all staff members. Our goal with all trainings is to work closely with our police department on effective communication during any emergency.

Please know that in addition to the comfort and support you provide your child, we have a number of school personnel at each site that can provide additional support, if it is needed. Administrators, teachers, counselors, and our school psychologists are all available should your child feel the need to talk with someone at school. Additionally, you are always welcome to contact your child’s teacher if you should have concerns.

For more information about how to help your child and/or if you would like to review pertinent resources, the following may be helpful:

It is deeply saddening to have to send information like this to you yet again. Always feel free to contact me should you have concerns or questions.

Respectfully,

Rachel Zinn, Superintendent

Parcel Tax Feasibility Survey

Congratulations to Linda Mara, LAFSD Teacher of the Year for 2017-2018

"When I started middle school, math was the least of my concerns. I busied myself with friends and sports. It wasn't until 7th grade when I was a student in Ms. Mara's class that I started paying attention to mathematics.  Ms. Mara's enthusiasm for her job is evident and she has bountiful energy towards her students. Her classes are not only engaging and fun, but also educational and effective. She adapts and modifies her teaching style for every student. Whether math is or isn't your thing, Ms. Mara is dedicated to making sure you enjoy learning in her class. I remember many times where she made an effort to talk to me outside of class when she saw that I was struggling and offered her help and support. Ms. Mara makes school enjoyable and her classes are captivating. I am now inspired to work in a STEM field, and I am currently taking multiple STEM classes in high school. Thanks to Ms. Mara, not only has my career path changed, but my attitude towards school has soared."  Madeline Wilson, former student, Stanley Middle School
