Board Members
Rob Sturm, President (2022)

Rob has been a Lafayette School District Governing Board Member since 2017.

Rob has been a practicing labor and employment attorney and litigator for nearly 30 years.  He obtained his BS in Industrial & Labor Relations from Cornell University and his JD from Boston University School of Law. 

Rob has spent significant time during his professional career performing volunteer service. His non-profit work has included volunteer teaching and non-profit board service, and Rob served for many years on the Board of Directors for CASA for Children of Klamath Falls, the Northern California Employment Round Table and the Lafayette Homeowners Council. 

His current Board assignments include Communications, Rapport, Joint City/District, and Sustainability. He is also the liaison to Burton Valley Elementary School and Lafayette Education Association.

Rob and his wife Kristina have lived in Lafayette since 2009, and their three children attend Burton Valley Elementary School.

Suzy Pak, clerk (2024)

Suzy has a background of more than 25 years in the financial services/asset management industry.  She is a native Californian and the product of California public schools.  She has a BA in Economics from UC Santa Cruz and an MBA from San Jose State University.

Suzy is an active community volunteer with service on the boards of the Springhill Elementary Parent Faculty Club, the Lafayette Library and Learning Center Foundation, National Charity League-Acalanes Chapter, the Contra Costa Child Abuse Prevention Council, the San Francisco Child Abuse Prevention Center, the Junior League of San Francisco, Lamorinda Village, and Educate Our State.  She served as the Treasurer for the Measure B parcel tax campaign in 2011 and 2014. Suzy has served on the Governing Board since 2014.

Her current Board assignments include Joint City/District, Diversity, Las Trampas Creek Council PTA, and Rapport. She is also Board liaison to Lafayette Elementary and the California School Employees Association.

She and her husband Mark Gundacker have lived in Lafayette since 2001 with their daughters, who have attended Springhill, Stanley, and now Acalanes. 

Jean Follmer (2022)

Jean Follmer was elected to the Governing Board in November, 2012, and served a 4-year term. After a two-year break she returned to the Board in December, 2018.

In addition to her time on the School Board, Jean has been an active community volunteer. She served on the Springhill Parent Faculty Club for 3 years, including President in 2010-11. She is a Co-founder of Lafayette for Education, a grass-roots group with a mission to find and drive sustainable revenue for our public schools. Jean has also been involved in the local swim community for many years. She volunteered for LMYA Swimming in a number of capacities, including as Liaison to the Lafayette Swim Conference Board. She is currently in her 7th year on the Executive Board of Orinda Aquatics. Other past volunteer positions include: Joyful Beginnings Preschool Board, the Lafayette Community Foundation, East Bay Agency for Children and various roles on local tax and bond measures and election campaigns.

Her current committee assignments are Policy, Communications, and LPIE. Jean is also the liaison to Stanley Middle School and the California School Employees Association.

A Chicago native, Jean and her family moved to Lafayette in 2007. She has two children who are graduates of Springhill Elementary School, Stanley Middle School and Campolindo High School. Jean holds a Bachelor of Science degree from the University of South Carolina as well as an Associate in Risk Management (ARM) designation. Her prior professional experience includes servicing public sector property-casualty pools for schools and municipalities and writing/reporting for local papers.

Meredith Meade (2024)

Meredith Meade was elected to the Governing Board in November, 2016.

Meredith has volunteered in Lafayette since her oldest child began kindergarten at Lafayette Elementary in 2006.  Her roles have included: Lafayette Elementary School PTA Executive Board (2007-2013; President 2011-2013); Lafayette Partners in Education (2013-2016; President 2014-2016); Rapport (2010-2016; Chair 2013-2014); Rancho Colorados Swim & Tennis Club Board of Directors (Swim Director 2012-2014); and, Lafayette Swim Conference Board of Directors (Secretary 2016-2018); and Las Trampas Creek Council of PTAs Executive Board (Parliamentarian 2017-2018; Historian 2018-2020). She also volunteered for local parcel tax and bond measures, serving as a school site chair in 2011 and a signatory on the ballot in favor of Measure C, the 2016 bond measure passed for the upgrade and retrofit of the district’s schools.

Her current Board assignments include  Wellness, Curriculum Council, and Sustainability. Meredith is also the liaison to Springhill Elementary School and the Lafayette Education Association. Meredith also serves on the California School Board Association Delegate Assembly and a representative for the Contra Costa School Boards Association.

Meredith grew up in southern California and attended public schools, graduating from UC Berkeley with a BA in History. Before volunteering and raising her children, Meredith worked for the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation and the College of Letters & Science at UC Berkeley.

Meredith and her husband, Dan, have lived in Lafayette since 1999, and have three children who attended Lafayette Elementary and Stanley Middle School. The oldest is currently in college, and the other two currently attend Acalanes High School.

DavE Smith (2022)

Dave Smith joined the Governing Board in June 2021.  Dave is passionate about public engagement, civic education, and social and emotional learning. He served on the board of Lafayette Partners in Education (LPIE) from 2019-2021 and on the leadership team for the Measure L parcel tax for Lafayette schools campaign in 2020.

Dave is a graduate of UC Berkeley and has two decades of experience as an entrepreneur, coalition builder, and cross sector leader, and he previously served as chief executive for the Presidio Institute, National Conference on Citizenship, and Mobilize.org.

Dave is the founder and CEO of X Sector Labs where he's worked for business, government, and nonprofit clients on issues including executive coaching, leadership development, corporate citizenship, economic development, green manufacturing, service and volunteerism, civic education, community journalism, and mental health.

His current Board assignments are Policy, Transportation JPA, Curriculum Council, and LPIE. Dave is also the liaison to Happy Valley Elementary.

Dave is sixth generation San Franciscan, enjoys playing golf, traveling the world, and going to Cal Football games.  He lives in Lafayette with his wife, Maya, and two children who attend Springhill Elementary.
